MARTIN ONTIVEROS

Martin Ontiveros is an up and comer who lives in Portland, Oregon. Growing up, he had little interest in anything but comics, cartoons, movies, toys, and drawing. Somehow he has managed to channel these interests into a somewhat successful career illustration. He earned a BFA in Experimental Animation at CalArts, though he has yet to produce even one little film. Moving to Portland after graduation, he spent the better part of the next year working in really stupid jobs and making little art until he buckled down and booked himself a show, which subsequently nearly sold out. He then quit working at all stupid jobs (except art) and it's been a fairly steady stream of gallery shows and projects ever since. Since 1998 he has been illustrating the Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot children's book series with big shot kid's book author Dav Pilkey (creator of Captain Underpants), a gig which allows him to further explore and express his love of monsters and robots. The fifth book of the Ricky Ricotta series has recently been published and production on the sixth begins this fall. Martin's work will appear both in Portland's Gallery Bink and in the giant Sci-Fi Western group show at San Francisco's 11 Minna in January 2003.
