Christopher Reccardi
was born in Long Island, NY, the youngest of 9 children. His
early interests included Time/Life books such as " The Sea",
" Space", early Fliescher Popeye cartoons, The Beatles, and
The Who. He spent most of his childhood drawing and He raised
butterflies in an old bathtub in the yard filled with soil and
parsley plants, while other kids were playing sports. He got
into music at age 9, and by age 14, he could play all of The
Who's Quadrophenia on the Electric Bass.
Unable to get into
art school due to poor high school grades, Chris emmigrated
to California in 1986 in hopes of finding work in the Animation
field through his brother-in-law, Disney Animator Chuck Harvey.
with no previous interest or training in Animation, work did
not come easy, but he finally got his first break in 1988 when
a Canadian named John Kricfalusi hired him on the new "Beany
& Cecil" show as a Character Layout trainee. The show was, of
course, cancelled and Chris went on to do Storyboard, Layout
and Design for animation legend Ralph Bakshi, and then onto
Tiny Toons Adventures where he met many of his future colleagues.
Chris then joined
the fledgeling crew of Spumco, Inc. in 1990 for the Ren & Stimpy
Show, where he was to receive much of his formal Drawing and
Animation training under Animation super-talents John K., Jim
Smith, and Lynne Naylor. He was dismissed by Kricfalusi in 1992,
returning to the show later as a Director, writer and musician
and continuing until it's end in 1995. In the last 7 years he
has contributed to a variety of projects including Universal's
Hercules and Xena: The battle for Mt. Olympus ( Asst. Director);
Storyboard for Woody Woodpecker, Cow & Chicken, Powerpuff Girls,
and most recently as Storyboard/ Writer for Samurai Jack. In
1999-2000 he and partner Charlie Bean created and produced a
short for Cartoon Network, Imp, Inc., for which he wrote and
performed much of the original music.
Since 2000, Chris
has enjoyed showing work in Burning Brush Art Auctions. He and
wife Lynne Naylor reside in Los Angeles, CA, where he is currently
recording a CD of original music in his home recording studio,
as well as development for a new original Animated series.
