Born in Canada, Kevin
Scalzo has lived in the U.S. since 1971. While growing up, he
voraciously read every comic book he could get his hands on.
What has now become a cliché among cartoonists, his older brother
David influenced his reading habits by bringing home Mad Magazine
and exposing him to underground comics.
Kevin was initially trained as a painter. He attended the Minneapolis
College of Art and Design from 1987 to 1990 and Cornish College
of Art in Seattle from 1991 to 1992.
Since then he has concentrated on his first love, comics and
illustration, most notably showing up in the last four issues
of Pete Bagge's "Hate" and drawing illustrations for weekly
papers such as The New York Press and Seattle's The
Stranger. From 1996 to early 2001 Kevin was also employed
at Fantagraphics Books.
Kevin currently spends his time illustrating and painting. His
work can be seen in various small press publications and occasionally
in a gallery setting, such as Seattle's Roq La Rue.
His newest comic, Sugar Booger #1debuted at APE in San Francisco
last Febuary.
He now resides in Seattle with his wife and their two dogs.
